SONG (19) by JOHN WILMOT

Poet Analysis

First Line: CORRINA VAINLY I PRETEND
Last Line: HIS FAULS DOMINION DOES PROVE

LXXVIII

CORRINA Vainly I pretend
Your charming scorn still to outbrave
My fond resistance now must end
Soe glorious tis to be your Slave
That my ambition has noe higher Aime
Then humblely to adore (and) Serve
(with such a pure) and perfitt flame
Since mines soe inocent a flame
I doe your pitty though not love deserve
now humblely to adore and serve
is my ambitions highest aim

Corinna humblely I confess
My rude resistance now must end
Whilst you thouse thousand charmes posses
How vain to fredome I pretend

@3(On verso)@1

Vertues my lawfull prince my tyrant love
His fauls dominion does prove
