SONG (5) by JOHN WILMOT

Poet Analysis

First Line: AT LAST YOU'LL FORCE ME TO CONFESS
Last Line: BETRAY A KINDER STORY.

At last you'll force me to confess
You need no arts to vanquish:
Such charms from nature you possess,
'Twere dullness not to languish.
Yet spare a heart you may surprise,
And give my tongue the glory
To scorn, while my unfaithful eyes
Betray a kinder story.
