NIGHTS by ADELAIDE ANNE PROCTER

First Line: O THE SUMMER NIGHT, HAS A SMILE OF LIGHT

Oh, the summer night has a smile of light
and she sits on a sapphire throne,
by the firelight.

Incandescent light flickers upon their bodies,
shimmering hues of golden tones
birds chirping, crickets singing in unison
waves from the ocean joining the symphony
heat from the night's warm breeze

Passions collide under the starlit sky
whispers of love in on the summer night
alight with its smile
