SOWER by GEORGE WILLIAM RUSSELL

First Line: AFTER THE SOWER WITH THE SEED

AFTER the Sower with the seed
What mightier being strides behind,
Who from a fiery hand strews out
The elves of life upon the wind?

And every one becomes a slave
Labouring through earth from seed to sun,
Till the green pillar's thick with grain
And the long marvellous labour's done.

Ah, when the food is made for man,
The spirits that the scythe sets free:
Do they exult and do they fly,
Sower of Life, again to Thee.
