TIME, by ANNA MARY ADAMS First Line: When time shall leave this once strong Last Line: Of the deep, still pools of the westward way. | |||
When time shall leave this once strong body weak, Perhaps the disposition then to keep More hours in memory's world with friends of old Who walked our way -- whose vision too will hold Scenes that we love -- may fully compensate For lack of strength to travel in paths new; For there is much of beauty to review Within the life of one who lingers late. There dross is buried in the distant past While gold remains -- oft to prevent a fast When fevered workers through the busy day See not the meaning of their strain and stress; We shall find comfort in the quietness Of the deep, still pools of the westward way. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LINES ON OBSERVING A BLOSSOM [ON THE FIRST OF FEBRUARY 1796] by SAMUEL TAYLOR COLERIDGE THE BLACK RIDERS: 38 by STEPHEN CRANE AFTER THE LAST BREATH (J.H. 1813-1904) by THOMAS HARDY A SHROPSHIRE LAD: 40 by ALFRED EDWARD HOUSMAN VENUS OF THE LOUVRE by EMMA LAZARUS AMORETTI: 65 by EDMUND SPENSER |
