MEMORIES, by MINNIE MCKINNON BOGGS First Line: More fragrant seems the oleander bloom Last Line: Of smiling lips that mock a heart that sighs. Subject(s): Oleanders | |||
More fragrant seems the oleander bloom When dusky shadows with the moonbeams meet. When snowy lilies shed their soft perfume Come happy memories and bittersweet. What memories can hover round a flower Till one forgets the pleasure that it gave. The jasmine fragrance has a haunting power, Breathes romance and recalls an open grave. A fading rose can strangely cast its spell, And holds its glamour where it proudly lies. If flowers could speak, the crimson rose might tell Of smiling lips that mock a heart that sighs. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...OLEANDER GROVE by MARTHA COWELL CALLOWAY HOW ABUNDANT IS THE SPRING by STEPHEN SHU-NING LIU OLEANDER by LORETTA RANDALL SHARP HOW ARE YOU, SANITARY?' by FRANCIS BRET HARTE SOMETHING BEYOND by MARY CLEMMER AMES HUDSON FEELINGS OF A REPUBLICAN ON THE FALL OF BONAPARTE by PERCY BYSSHE SHELLEY COCK-CROW by PHILIP EDWARD THOMAS LOGOGRIPH by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD SONNETS OF MANHOOD: 37.
