RETROSPECTION, by ROBERT CLAY First Line: I stand with time upon the planet's brink Last Line: Sang adonais through the kilbourne meadows! Subject(s): Adonis; April Fool's Day; Mythology - Classical; Youth; All Fools' Day | |||
I stand with Time upon the planet's brink. Fancy unwinds her films -- a flashing spool. Boyhood at marbles near the old red school, And in the marsh the happy bobolink Singing to reeds, pauses to dine and drink. A pert spring voice is crying "April Fool." Bright is the cowslip's gold, and boggy-cool Pasque-flowers wet with glorious sun-gems wink. Once more the hour of Youth, and love-in-shadows; What heart alive but breathes the lover's tale? Soft winds are whispering to tender willows, And when from England's shores fond thoughts prevail, I hear again what to his Nightingale Sang Adonais through the Kilbourne meadows! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...EPIGRAM ON THE FIRST OF APRIL by JOHN WINSTANLEY THE WINDS OF LUXOR by ROBERT CLAY CHAMBER MUSIC: 3 by JAMES JOYCE GEORGE MOORE by MARIANNE MOORE DOWNFALL OF POLAND [FALL OF WARSAW, 1794] by THOMAS CAMPBELL TO MY DEAR FRIEND, MR.
