THE DISPASSIONATE, by DOROTHY DUNN First Line: No alabaster curve of creamy breast Last Line: Can lure a man completely from his soul. | |||
No alabaster curve of creamy breast, No feminine allurement can intrude Upon the hours when men lie down to rest In the soft, maternal lap of solitude. There comes a sexless moment of great peace When dancing girls are garlanded in vain, When all the inward fluctuations cease, And men lie on the breast of thought again. One must respect the equal rights of bride And mother earth for lover and the son; There is a place within more deep and wide Than moments to be shared with anyone. No pulsing body in a tempting role Can lure a man completely from his soul. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...NEIGHBORS by EDWIN ARLINGTON ROBINSON LOVE IN BLACK AND WHITE by KAREN SWENSON THE CLOD AND THE PEBBLE, FR.
