ELDERBLOOM IN MOONLIGHT, by LUCILLE EVANS First Line: The moon, a flower of gold upon night's breast Last Line: Gazed, with the look of gods, on paradise! Alternate Author Name(s): Stillwell, Evan | |||
The moon, a flower of gold upon Night's breast made bright a country lane, once long ago, when, in the thralldom of young love's unrest, I strolled with my adored one. Sudden a slow enchantment claimed us as a fragrance blew, poignant and bitter-sweet from elderbloom that fringed the roadside drenched in summer dew.... silent we paused, enslaved by its perfume. Strange magic fell upon us two, that night -- (where are you, love, since cycled years have gone?) even our breaths were stilled, almost in fright, for one brief mystic moment we were one high heartbeat: for one instant our young eyes gazed, with the look of gods, on Paradise! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE PRINCESS: SONG by ALFRED TENNYSON THE DALLIANCE OF THE EAGLES by WALT WHITMAN EASTER DAY [IN ROME] by OSCAR WILDE COMPLAINS OF THE COURT by PHILIP AYRES FROM AN OFFICE WINDOW by FRANCES M.
