THE STROLLER, by DERRICK NORMAN LEHMER Poet's Biography First Line: A wind came wandering up the street Last Line: I think she got a kiss from him! | |||
A wind came wandering up the street, And all the flowers made friends with him: And every tree he chanced to meet Was happy to shake hands with him. And every loving mother tree Her little leaves held out to him: They laughed and clapped their hands in glee And seemed to crow and shout to him. Full many a roguish little bloom As he went by would laugh at him; While one old witch-tree, like a broom, Cackled, and shook her staff at him. But wistful violet, in the grass No one expected this from him When she glanced up to see him pass, I think she got a kiss from him! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MILITARISM by DERRICK NORMAN LEHMER RICHES by DERRICK NORMAN LEHMER DEATH'S JEST-BOOK: DIRGE FOR WOLFRAM by THOMAS LOVELL BEDDOES FANCY IN NUBIBUS; OR, THE POET IN THE CLOUDS by SAMUEL TAYLOR COLERIDGE A MOTHER TO HER SICK CHILD by WILLIAM HENRY DAVIES SEA GODS: 2 by HILDA DOOLITTLE SONNET: THE EVENING STAR by HENRY WADSWORTH LONGFELLOW THE EARL O' QUARTERDECK by GEORGE MACDONALD A DIRGE by PERCY BYSSHE SHELLEY |
