She looked to find a poem, For her heart was all a-song, And she longed to find expression To pass the joy along. But it played -- a thing elusive, Like a floating thistledown; So she turned to little duties As daily she had found. She put a tiny house to rights And made it cherry bright. She set a bowl of blooming bulbs Within the window's light. She answered fifty questions For a busy little brain, She kissed away a troubled tear And made a circus train. She served an appetizing meal On quaint old Quimper ware, And half forgot the poem thing To rumple up his hair. She watched a glowing sunset, And then a white star shone.
