PLEASURE MIXED WITH PAIN by THOMAS WYATT

Poet Analysis

First Line: VENOMOUS THORNS THAT ARE SO SHARP AND KEEN
Last Line: SINCE EVERY WOE IS JOINED WITH SOME WEALTH.
Subject(s): FLOWERS; HEALTH;

Venomous thorns that are so sharp and keen
Sometime bear flowers fair and fresh of hue;
Poison oft time is put in medicine
And causeth health in man for to renew;
Fire that purgeth all thing that is unclean
May heal, and hurt: and if these been true,
I trust sometime my harm may be my health,
Since every woe is joined with some wealth.
