FESTOONS OF FISHES by ALFRED FRANCIS KREYMBORG

First Line: INCOGNITOS OF MASQUERADING MOONS
Last Line: FESTOONS OF FISHES WEAVE INSANITY.
Subject(s): FISH & FISHING; IGNORANCE; SEA; ANGLERS; DULLNESS; STUPDITY; OCEAN;

INCOGNITOS of masquerading moons
Refute the theories philosophers
Propound who blow their cheeks to fill balloons
And call their windy whims interpreters.
The swimming islands of the naked sun
Confound a telescope to ignorance
By dancing like oases on the run
Or delicate mirages in a trance.
The torrents of the sky reduce the earth,
A brittle stone, to powdered liquid sand;
Amuse themselves with slanting silver mirth
If hermits claim they've found the hidden hand.
Among the coral crypts that hold the sea
Festoons of fishes weave insanity.
