CATCHING THE DEVIL by WILLIAM HENRY DAVIES

Poet Analysis

First Line: NOT WHILE HER CHARMS ARE STILL IN FLOWER
Last Line: O LORD, HOW FALSE SHE WAS!
Subject(s): BETRAYAL;

Not while her charms are still in flower,
We'll trust no woman then;
Not till her beauty's gone for good,
Can she be safe with men.
I thought I loved an angel once,
Without one breath of evil —
Till, smiling in my cunning trap,
I saw the very devil!
I set my trap in my friend's face,
With his weak face my glass;
Till, with his looks reflecting hers —
O Lord, how false she was!
